I caught this film when it was was screened at DSS-IFF in Spain last week. i'm a fan of Tim Roth, my mom was a classical trained musician, and I was genuinely optimistic about Song of Names.
I was disappointing. This is quite a poorly done work. Another user reviwer here said the ending was "shocking." No it is not, it is predictable. In fact the entire film is a endless run of cliche. Utterly pointless remake. Talk about bring out another Top Gun movie took them long enough how old is he now lol.

Tom Hanks is just about the only person that could play Mr. Rogers correctly R.I.P Mr. Rogers You will always be remembered as a wise man I'm glad i got to be your neighbor all those years ago. The director, Francois Girard, and, I suspect, the same Canadian production company were involved in the 1998 RED VIOLIN. Like that film it takes place over multiple time periods, in this film clearly stated to be 1951, 1986, and the earliest, unidentified time which can be inferred to be sometime between March and September 1939. The scene shifts back and forth a good deal and some critics found this confusing and destructive of continuity but I found no difficulty in following the story line. Memory is not linear and orderly but rather fragmented and out of sequence, particularly when dealing with highly charged emotionally traumatic experiences. This is an exceptionally intelligent screenplay where not everything has to be spelled out. It's true that a key plot point mystery is fairly predictable. Yet the story builds to a wrenching climax in a way you don't see every day in the movies.
Tim Roth plays well against type as a quiet, introspective Brit. The score composer, Howard Shore, was involved in composing the impressive music in the Lord of the Rings and does an award-deserving job here. I rate the film at 3.5/4 stars. Strongly recommended for everybody, especially any serious music student as well as anyone of Jewish background, particularly of GenX through to Millennials.

At 1:18 that truly is deep because that's exactly how love should be. Through thick and thin, love should never end cause things get tough. Love thrives. Love is love. Love is light. The trailer was significantly better than the movie itself. the movie is too focused on the character's backstories and showing flashbacks that it doesn't focus on what's happening at the present. very disappointing. Imagine a woman in real life turning down a proposal just because she has feelings for another guy what I typed was the 1800s. The 1800s must have been messed up.
